Right to Know Day around the world - Macedonia

1. Organizer: Open Society Institute Foundation
Event: Distribution of leaflets in the most popular daily newspaper Dnevnik
Date: September 28, 2006

Description: Foundation Open Society Institute - Macedonia Last has had a meeting with the President of the Commission for Protection of the Right to Free Access to Information of Public Character in Macedonia and have informed him about the day. He has embraced the idea of celebrating the day and together we decided to distribute leaflets ( PDF file 1.05Mb) on the September 28th in the most popular daily newspaper Dnevnik. The number of copies of the newspaper is 35.200, so we believe that this will contribute to the awareness of the citizens at the beginning of the implementation of the FOI Act. The leaflet will be created by a professional marketing agency. It will contain general information about right to access information, a FOI web site (supported by FOSIM, Foundation Metamorphosis and Swedish Helsinki Committee, www.spinfo.org.mk and www.foi.org.mk that will be operational on September 28th), Commission’s mandate and contact info and green line for free legal aid on FOI complaints.

2. Organizer: PRO MEDIA
Event: Promotion of the second updated version of the guides for information holders and information requesters
Date: September 28, 2006

Description: For the 28th of September PRO MEDIA will promote the second updated
version of the guides for information holders and information requesters in a total circulation of about 8000. The guides are updated with support from Spillover Monitoring Mission of OSCE in Skopje and the promotion is organized in cooperation with the Commission on free access to information. The President of the Parliament (Mr. Ljubisha Georgievski) and the Ambassador and Head of OSCE Spillover Monitoring Mission of OSCE in Skopje (Mr. Carlos Pais) will address the participants.

The The President of the Commission will promote the guides.

The promotion will be in the Parliament building, as it was for the first edition. We are glad that we are continuing with the same symbolic: The Right to Know event in the "most citizen" building. We expect high officials from state and public institutions and also from NGO sector.

3. Organizer: Transparentnost -Macedonia
Event: Launch of a SOS line for citizens and anti-corruption guide
Date: September 28, 2006

Description: Transparentnost -Macedonia has a plan to promote the pay free SOS line for the citizens (0 800 44 333) for indicting corruption. It wiil be a good ocassion also and for the Right to Know Day for 28-th September to inform the public in Macedonia that thay have a possibility for free acces to information connected with corruption.

For that ocassion we prepared an anti-corruption quide for citizens.
