Right to Know Day around the world - Croatia

Organizer: Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights
Date:
September 28, 2006
Event: Expert discussion

Description: Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights is working on organization of an event for 28th September for third time.

This year we want to make an additional public pressure on government to adopt our proposals for changes of FOIA and harmonization of Data Secrecy Law according to the international standards. Therefore, we are organizing an expert discussion with participation of the best knowers of both freedom of information and data protection, distinguished academics, the prime minister, relevant ministers, public officials and MPs. We are selecting the most appropirate cases (from our FOIA monitoring activities) for a case study by which we want to underline that including a three-part test as well as information commissioner and other, in the Croatian FOIA is absolutely neccessary for implementation of the Public Right to Know at all. FOI commissioner from Slovenia will present their experience on the matter, too. We shall also prepare, as every year, a special media campaign in these days including broadcasting of a TV spot and dissemination of press releases, interviews etc.
