Right to Know Day around the world - Macedonia

For the celebration of the Right to Know Day in Republic of Macedonia, Foundation Open Society Institute – Macedonia will organize:

1. Organizing “open day” together with the Commission for the Protection of the Right to Free Access to Information and Macedonian Young Lawyers Association. As part of the celebration, a discussion forum will be organized with the responsible persons of the information holders on how to improve the right to free access to information in Macedonia.

2. Publication of an announcement “Our right to know” celebrating the right to know day and pointing out the specific rights protected with our national law (JPG file 231Kb). The announcement is published four major daily newspapers.

3. Organizing a three day advanced seminar for attorneys specialized in free access to information. The seminar will focus on the current legislation implementation and jurisprudence regarding the right to free access and will ail to further develop litigation strategies to promote the right to free access to information. The seminar will be held in Struga, and is organized in partnership with the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association.

4. Invitation to all responsible officials representing Macedonia in the Council of Europe, to discuss the CoE’s draft Convention on access to official documents. A special working meeting will be held to discuss possible strategies to improve the draft Convention. The meeting is organized in cooperation with Pro Media, Macedonian Young Lawyers Association and Macedonia Media Development Centre

5. Circulation of letter to all 1,400 information holders celebrating the International right to know day, and remaining them of their obligations in protecting and ensuring the right to free access to information. The letter was a joint activity with the Commission for the Protection of the Right to Free Access to Information
