The Right to Know Coalition of Nova Scotia (Can), created 16 months ago to promote openness and accountability in government and to educate citizens of their rights under the Nova Scotia Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act will be holding a public forum in the capital Halifax, at King's College Journalism School.

Included in the agenda is a debate between a former senior government bureaucrat and a journalism professor on: Does the government of Nova Scotia already provide enogh information to the public to allow for informed judgement by the public? Both have considerable experience with our FOI Legislation.

The new Provincial Information and Privacy Commissioner will speak about the legitimacy of personal privacy as an exception to the disclosure of information.

Halifax's deputy Police Chief will explain the reasons why police are prevented from providing information with respect to law enforcement.

Four journalism students will question members of the legislature representing all three political parties.

The audience will be encouraged to get engaged in the discussions.
