Event: Press conferences, street event
Date: September, 27th and 28th
Time: 12,00 CET
Location: Belgrade, Nis, Negotin, Leskovac,etc.
Donor: Yucom, Transparency Serbia, Fund for an Open Society, Serbia

Description: We, in Serbia are preparing several events for 28th. On behalf of recently established NGO Coalition for the promotion of the idea and practice of free access to information ( 7 NGOs for the time being - Center for Anti-War Action, Belgrade Center for Human Rights, YUCOM, Center for Advanced Legal Studies, Civic Initiatives, Transparency Serbia and finally Fund for an Open Society, which initiated the establishment of the Coalition) there are some basic information. We agreed to make a Press conference in Belgrade on 27th of September to announce the Right to Know Day. Then we shall announce the es! tablishment of the Coalition and our joint proposal to amend the recently adopted Draft Law by the Serbian Government on Free Access to Information. Parliamentary debate is expected in October, so we shall have enough time to lobby for the advancements of the Law, first publicly on 27th. We believe that media will cover it properly, and information of the importance of adopting a modern Law will be published right on 28th. Besides that joint initiative for the amendments, some of the NGOs from the Coalition will present at the Press Conference their other results in the field of Free access to information (publications, presentation of the training, etc).

Apart from this Transparency Serbia, which host a regional Meeting of the national branches of TI in Belgrade from 28. - 30. September is going to organise a kind of street event on this occasion. Probably other members of the Coalition will support and join them.

Yucom is going to organise press conferences in a few Serbian municipalities, in which they have just finished the seminars on free access to information. The floor is open for other members of the Coalition to join them.

It is worth saying that Coalition will widen in days to come, as Fund for an Open Society, Serbia is in the process of identifying a local NGO - partners in 6 Serbian municipalities to monitor the FAI Law, once it come into force, we believe soon. Coalition is open and we shall announce it on 27th!
