Event: International Case Law - Access to Information and Free Speech
Date: 28 September
Location: Bucaresti

The Romanian NGOs involved in promoting the free access to information will celebrate the International Right to Know Day (September 28) in Bucharest.

To mark this day, two publications will be officially launched and participants will share their most recent experiences in using and monitoring FOIA.

The highlights of the day will be the ceremony of the Transparency Awards. The awards (that are symbolic) will either reward best practices in managing the public information or sanction, by way of satire, the most closed public institutions.

The Center for Independent Journalism will launch The Access to Public Information manual for public information officers (the Romanian version of the English manual produced by Article XIX), while the Media Monitoring Agency will launch their "International Case Law - Access to Information and Free Speech".

The organizers of this event are: the Romanian Helsinki Committee (APADOR - CH), the Association Pro Democratia (APD), the Media Monitoring Agency (AMP), the Association for the Protection and Promotion of the Freedom of Speech (APPLE), the Center for Independent Journalism (CIJ), the Center for Legal Resources (CRJ), the Institute for Public Policies (IPP), the Romanian Academic Society (SAR) and Transparency International - Romania (TI-R)

The Right to Know Day is an initiative of the world-wide network of FOI
advocates created in 2002. It aims at raising the awareness on the free
access to information as a fundamental human right.

It is the second time that the Right to Know Day is celebrated in Romania.
