Organizer: Access to Information Programme (AIP), Bulgaria Description: In 2009, Access to Information Programme (AIP), Bulgaria produced the thirty-minute documentary Right to Know Day. The movie presents the history of the Right to Know Day ceremonies in Bulgaria and the positive effects from the advocacy for the right of access to information. The documentary is on a DVD and is accessible online with English subtitles at: http://www.aip-bg.org/matra/rkd_film_en.php. It has been distributed to local TVs in Bulgaria which will broadcast. The movie will also be shown at the RTI Movie Festival to be held in Delhi, India October 7-11, 2009. In the eve of Right to Know Day, AIP is publishing the fourth edition of the handbook for citizens How to Get Access to Information? The text of the handbook is in line with the last amendments to the Bulgarian Access to Public Information Act from December 2008. The handbook is available online in Bulgarian: http://www.aip-bg.org/pdf/handbook2009.pdf. In preparation for the Seventh Right to Know Day Award Ceremony which AIP organizes and holds in Bulgaria since 2003, we collected the record 73 nominations for the 7 different categories (http://www.righttoknowday.net/categories_eng.php). The traditional Golden Key, Tied Key and Padlock Awards will be given to the greatest contributors to the freedom of information and the biggest violators of FOI rights in Bulgaria. The Awards Ceremony will be held on September 28 at the Press Club of the Bulgarian News Agency. The event will be broadcast on Internet and can be followed live on September 28 at 9.00 CET here: http://www.bta.bg/site/bg/html/03services.shtml Posters and leaflets are being disseminated with the help of AIP coordinators throughout all regions of Bulgaria, 300 invitations were sent out to institutions, media, NGOs, partners, clients, and friends to attend the event. Promotion materials will be distributed among participants at the Right to Know Day Awards Ceremony. AIP coordinators, who are all journalists, have already started the media campaign accompanying the Right to Know Day in Bulgaria by publishing and broadcasting in local media about the forthcoming Right to Know Day Awards Ceremony. Traditionally, the August and September issues of the AIP Monthly electronic newsletter (http://www.aip-bg.org/bulletin_bg.htm) focus predominantly on the Right to Know Day and the Awards Ceremony we organize in Bulgaria. |
